We are seeking an experienced and proactive Facilities Manager to take responsibility for the strategic management of our client’s school estate, facilities contracts, and support services. Reporting to the Finance and Resources Manager and leading a small team, you will ensure the school estate is safe, compliant, efficient, and supportive of teaching, learning, and student well-being.

Employment type: Full-time

Hours: 35 hours per week, all year round

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure full compliance with health & safety and statutory requirements, including fire safety, asbestos management, and workplace regulations.
  • Oversee facilities contracts, procurement, and budgets, ensuring value for money and adherence to financial regulations.
  • Lead the delivery of the Asset Management Plan, capital works, and improvement projects.
  • Drive sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives, monitoring usage and achieving carbon reduction targets.
  • Supervise planned preventative maintenance and risk management processes.
  • Provide strategic oversight of catering services, ensuring compliance with health, nutrition, and safety standards.
  • Develop and monitor KPIs for facilities, reporting regularly to governors and senior leadership.
  • Line manage and develop staff, ensuring effective delegation, training, and succession planning.
  • Build strong relationships with contractors, local authorities, and regulatory bodies.

About You

We are looking for a dependable, well-organised leader with strong knowledge of facilities and compliance management. You will bring:

  • Relevant experience in health & safety and facilities management (education sector experience desirable).
  • A recognised health & safety qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
  • Strong planning, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Experience managing teams, budgets, and contractors.
  • The ability to work under pressure with resilience, flexibility, and integrity.

Safeguarding Commitment

As this role involves substantial access to children, it is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check and comply with safeguarding procedures.
