An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Asset Fabric Manager to join the Estates and Facilities team of a prestigious academic institution with a large and diverse property portfolio. This role plays a key part in ensuring the effective management, maintenance and long-term sustainability of the institution's built environment. The successful candidate will help protect and enhance a complex estate that combines historic buildings with modern facilities, ensuring spaces remain safe, compliant and fit for purpose for students, staff and visitors.

Working within the Asset Management function, you will provide strategic oversight of building fabric across the estate, supporting lifecycle planning, maintenance strategies and the development of technical standards. You will also contribute to capital projects and wider estate initiatives, including sustainability and decarbonisation programmes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and strategic guidance on the management and maintenance of building fabric across the estate.
  • Develop and maintain standards for external building elements including roofing systems and building envelopes.
  • Support lifecycle planning and asset strategies to ensure long-term performance of buildings.
  • Undertake fault finding, condition assessments and maintenance audits to inform asset management decisions.
  • Provide specialist input to capital projects, including design reviews, commissioning and project handover stages.
  • Support compliance with statutory requirements and best practice in relation to building maintenance and life safety systems.
  • Oversee contractor performance and contribute to the development of policies, procedures and technical documentation.
  • Act as a technical point of reference for estates teams, sharing knowledge and providing guidance on construction methods, materials and building maintenance.
  • Contribute to the management and preservation of historic buildings within the estate portfolio.
About You

You will have a background in building surveying or a related discipline, with experience managing building fabric across large or complex estates. Experience within higher education, healthcare, public sector or heritage environments would be advantageous.

You will bring:

  • Strong technical knowledge of building fabric, envelopes and maintenance practices.
  • Experience contributing to lifecycle planning and asset management strategies.
  • A good understanding of statutory compliance and health & safety requirements.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • A professional qualification in Building Surveying or a related field (e.g. MRICS or equivalent) would be advantageous.
