A thriving co-educational independent day school in south-west London is seeking a proactive and versatile Estates Operative to join its dedicated Estates Team.
This vital role supports the smooth day-to-day running of the school by assisting with a broad range of duties including facilities maintenance, event setups, porterage, security support, and statutory testing such as fire alarm and legionella checks. The Estates Operative will also act as a keyholder, with responsibility for unlocking and locking the school premises.
This position is ideal for a practical, hands-on individual who takes pride in their work and enjoys being part of a busy and supportive team.
Key Responsibilities
Setting up and taking down furniture and equipment for school events
Undertaking general porterage duties across the site
Carrying out minor maintenance and repair tasks as required
Supporting the schools security function when necessary
Assisting with statutory compliance checks such as fire alarm and water testing
Managing deliveries and supporting contractors on site
Performing unlocking and locking duties as a designated keyholder
Providing responsive support during school hours and events
Maintaining a high standard of health, safety, and cleanliness throughout the estate
What Were Looking For
Essential:
Strong practical and problem-solving skills
Good level of physical fitness and a positive, can-do attitude
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Flexible and willing to work occasional additional hours (paid overtime)
Excellent timekeeping and reliability
Basic IT skills (e.g. using emails and logging tasks)
Desirable:
Previous experience in an estates, facilities, or maintenance role
Familiarity with health and safety procedures
Experience working in a school or similar busy environment
Knowledge of statutory compliance checks (e.g. legionella, fire systems)
