Our client is seeking a Critical Services Manager to lead estates services supporting facilities and other critical environments. This role is with an award-winning institution recognised among the UK’s Top 20 and the world’s Top 100. It focuses on statutory compliance, resilient mechanical services, effective contractor management, and long-term asset planning.
You will act as the single point of contact, providing technical leadership across high-risk mechanical systems and ensuring services are safe, compliant, and aligned with strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities- Provide expert advice on critical mechanical infrastructure and asset replacement
- Manage contracts, KPIs, and service performance within critical environments
- Lead planned maintenance, lifecycle replacement, and emergency response
- Maintain asset registers and support development of long-term asset strategies
- Chair meetings with stakeholders, contractors, and internal teams
- Provide authoritative advice on mechanical services, compliance, and best practice
- Support design reviews, capital projects, and technical assurance
- Manage investigations into service failures and implement preventative actions
- Ensure compliance across high-risk systems (e.g. pressure systems, refrigeration, LEV, lifting equipment, gas and ventilation systems)
- Manage statutory compliance and mechanical risk in collaboration with compliance teams
- Oversee M&E contractors and ensure safe access to critical facilities
- Identify and deliver projects that improve resilience and reduce risk
- Assist in managing operational budgets and identifying efficiencies
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to mechanical teams
- Maintain professional knowledge of legislation and industry developments
- Strong project, programme, and contract management skills
- Proven experience in building services or mechanical engineering
- Experience managing compliance, health & safety, and contractors
- Ability to communicate effectively and work under pressure
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- HNC/HND in Engineering Services or equivalent experience
- IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent)
- Full, current driving license
