The Welder/Pipefitter is responsible for producing high‑quality welded pipework in line with engineering drawings, project specifications, and relevant welding codes. The role includes ensuring full material traceability throughout the Non‑Destructive Testing (NDT) process and maintaining a strong working relationship with the NDT department. All work must comply with ASME IX and associated welding procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Weld pipework in accordance with drawings, specifications, and project schedules set by the line manager.
- Carry out small to medium‑scale fabrication of pipework, assemblies, and structural components.
- Work strictly to approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), health and safety requirements, and produce welds to X‑ray inspection quality.
- Operate effectively within a small team, maintaining high standards under time and quality pressures.
- Retrieve and handle materials from stores, including manual lifting up to 30kg.
- Maintain clear communication and collaboration with internal departments, particularly NDT.
Key Deliverables / Performance Indicators
- Accurate material identification, allocation, and traceability.
- Timely and correct handling of material deliveries.
- Effective document control and compliance with quality assurance processes.
Education & Experience
- Recognised apprenticeship.
- Proficiency in TIG, MIG, FCAW, and MMA welding processes preferred.
- Experience working to ASME IX and/or BS EN 15609/15614 welding standards.
- Valid trade test certifications (e.g., LRQA, DNV) considered an advantage.
- Demonstrated experience in welding within a similar industrial heavy engineering environment.
