Maxwell Consultancy are working closely with a market leader in their search for a Manufacturing Engineer. The company operates across several industries including Renewables, Oil & Gas and Water.
The Manufacturing Engineer plays a critical role in developing, optimising, and supporting the manufacturing processes required to deliver high‑quality components efficiently and reliably. This position is responsible for planning and implementing robust, cost‑effective production methods aligned with customer requirements, standard times, and operational targets.
Working as a key member of the Operations team, the Manufacturing Engineer will focus on CNC programming, tooling, process design, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role supports the machine shop by enhancing productivity, improving workflow, and ensuring that manufacturing methods are safe, efficient, and repeatable. This position is ideal for someone who thrives on problem‑solving, driving improvement, and collaborating across teams to deliver exceptional manufacturing performance.
Responsibilities
- CNC Programming & Process Development: Create, modify, and optimise CNC programs using Siemens, Mazak, and Heidenhain controls. Prepare and update manufacturing documentation, including methods, tooling specifications, setup sheets, and process instructions. Develop and maintain lean, robust manufacturing processes for both CNC and manual machining operations. Support daily/weekly production activities, including troubleshooting, program creation, and resolving machining issues.
- Continuous Improvement & Operational Support: Apply Lean Manufacturing principles to evaluate and improve production methods. Lead and participate in continuous improvement projects to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and improve cost effectiveness. Analyse production processes using structured problem‑solving methodologies to identify and implement improvements. Support non‑conformance investigations and drive corrective actions to improve quality performance.
- Tooling, Fixtures & Consumables: Design, specify, and support jigs, fixtures, and tooling for new and existing products. Manage and control manufacturing consumables, including tooling and lubrication. Work with suppliers on tooling, materials, and process‑related requirements.
- Quality, Documentation & Training: Create process specifications and material purchase specifications. Support rectification processes for assemblies and components, including bought‑in finished parts. Assist with cost‑of‑poor‑quality KPIs and improvement actions. Provide training and ongoing support to operators and colleagues on manufacturing processes. Ensure all activities comply with health, safety, and environmental standards.
Education and Experience Requirements
- HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) with a proven track record in a similar manufacturing engineering role.
- Strong knowledge of CNC and manual machining processes, including milling and turning.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing tools and methodologies.
- Proficient in CNC programming (Siemens, Mazak, Heidenhain).
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience with SAP or other MRP/ERP systems; proficiency in Excel and Word is beneficial.
- A collaborative team player with high energy, commitment, and the ability to lead and influence change.
