CMM Quality Inspector in Glasgow

The Role

As a Quality Inspector, you will ensure that machined parts, components and assemblies meet the required standards before they move through production or reach the customer. Working predominantly in a busy machine shop, you’ll carry out visual, dimensional and functional inspections using a wide range of tools and equipment. There may also be opportunities to support the Insitu business by visiting client sites to carry out surveys and inspections. This may involve physical activity, confined space work and obtaining the relevant passes or clearances for sectors such as oil & gas, renewables, nuclear and defence. You’ll work closely with engineering, operations and production teams, helping maintain high quality standards and supporting continuous improvement across the business.

Key Responsibilities

• First-off and in-process inspections of machined parts, assemblies and components.
• Use inspection tools including callipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges and CMM equipment.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, 3D models, technical specifications and quality standards.
• CMM Aberlink software experience beneficial (training provided).
• Identify defects, quality issues and non-conformances, escalating where appropriate.
• Record inspection results accurately and complete reports, including NCRs, using the Progress system.
• Support root cause analysis and work with the Operations Manager and production teams to implement corrective actions.
• Maintain inspection equipment records and ensure all tools are calibrated, maintained and fit for use, including laser trackers where applicable.
• Build strong working relationships with colleagues, suppliers and customers.
• Promote safe working practices and follow all health and safety procedures.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the quality and production functions.

Skills & Experience

• Experience in a machining, mechanical or manufacturing environment.
• Confidence using inspection and calibration tools such as callipers, micrometers and gauges.
• Exposure to CMM machines (highly advantageous).
• Ability to read and interpret both modern and historic engineering drawings.
• Good problem-solving skills, including root cause identification and corrective action support.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Good IT skills and confidence documenting inspection findings.
• Willingness to share knowledge and support colleagues with inspection tools and processes.

Working Hours

37 hours per week Monday–Thursday 07:30 or 07:45 to 15:55 or 16:05 (10-minute paid tea break + 25-minute unpaid lunch) Friday 07:30 or 07:45 to 12:30 or 12:45 (10-minute paid tea break)

Pay & Benefits

• £19.26 per hour
• 37 hours per week
