Maximus UK is seeking a skilled and motivated Database Administrator (DBA) to support the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and performance of our SQL Server database estate across Azure Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) environments. This role will work closely with Senior and Lead DBAs to ensure database reliability, security, and performance in a cloud-first, automation-driven environment.
Database Operations
• Administer and maintain Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instances, and SQL Server on Azure IaaS VMs.
• Execute backup and recovery procedures using Azure-native tools and SQL Server maintenance plans.
• Support high-availability and disaster recovery configurations under guidance from senior staff.
Monitoring & Observability
• Monitor database health and performance using SQL Server DMVs and Azure Monitor.
• Assist in troubleshooting performance issues and escalating complex problems to senior DBAs.
• Contribute to alerting and observability using tools like Splunk or equivalent. Performance & Optimization
• Write and optimize T-SQL queries and stored procedures.
• Analyse execution plans and recommend indexing strategies.
• Participate in performance tuning activities under supervision.
Security & Compliance
• Implement database security policies including encryption and access control.
• Support audit and compliance efforts through documentation and automation.
• Follow RBAC and data protection standards.
DevOps & Automation
• Assist with schema changes and code deployments using Azure DevOps.
• Contribute to infrastructure automation using PowerShell and Azure CLI.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
Data Integration & Reporting
• Develop and maintain ETL pipelines using Azure Data Factory.
• Support SSRS and SSIS for reporting and data workflows.
• Collaborate with data teams on Azure data services (e.g., Synapse, Databricks).
Collaboration & Support
• Work closely with Senior and Lead DBAs to align with database standards and practices.
• Participate in knowledge sharing and documentation efforts.
• Provide support for project delivery and incident resolution.
Essential
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900) or willingness to obtain within 3 months.
• 4+ years of SQL Server administration experience (SQL Server 2016+).
• 1+ years working with Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances, or SQL Server on Azure IaaS.
• Proficiency in T-SQL, query tuning, and backup/recovery operations.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Azure Monitor or Splunk.
Desirable
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300).
• Experience with Azure Data Factory, SSRS, SSIS, and DevOps tools.
• Exposure to Terraform, Azure CLI, PowerShell, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with KQL, Synapse, Databricks, or Cosmos DB.
Work Environment
