A specialist construction consultancy in Central London is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join as a Senior Consultant within its disputes and advisory team. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded professional with contractor and site experience to move into specialist construction disputes and advisory work. The successful candidate is expected to work on a combination of construction disputes and advisory assignments for housing associations and house builders. The role is likely to involve work across residential development and housing-related projects, with support on contractual, commercial and quantum-related matters. This is a full-time permanent position, requiring 3 days in the office, with flexibility to work at home 2 days a week.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Assist with the delivery of construction disputes and advisory assignments
- Support work on disputes relating to housing associations, house builders and residential projects
- Provide commercial and contractual advice across live and completed construction projects
- Review project records, notices, correspondence, valuations and contractual documentation
- Assist with the preparation of claims, defence submissions and dispute-related documentation
- Contribute to the assessment of loss and expense, variations, final accounts and other quantum matters
- Provide advisory support to clients to help identify, manage and avoid potential disputes
- Work closely with senior specialists and learn specialist disputes methodologies and best practice
- Maintain strong commercial awareness and apply practical Quantity Surveying knowledge to dispute situations
Desired Skills and Experience
- Strong Quantity Surveying and commercial management experience
- Previous experience working for a contractor is essential
- Previous on-site experience is essential
- Good working knowledge of JCT contracts
- Genuine interest in developing a career in construction disputes and dispute advisory work
- Experience dealing with house builders, housing associations or residential projects would be advantageous
- Good understanding of contract administration, valuations, variations, loss and expense and final accounts
- Strong written communication and analytical skills
- UK experience is preferred, although candidates from South Africa or Australia may also be considered and sponsorship may be available
- Ambitious and motivated individual seeking long-term career development in construction dispute resolution jobs and construction dispute careers
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline
- Chartered status is preferred. Candidates working towards chartership will also be considered.
- Additional construction or contract-related qualifications would be advantageous
