This Quantity Surveyor role will work on a range of marine related civil engineering projects in the Midlands which include lake, river, flood defences, bridges, marinas, canal works and lock gates. Project values range between £30k and £4.5M in value.
Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for Commercial performance of projects to achieve optimum recovery and cash flow and effective and fair management of Suppliers and sub-contractors. Duties will be to To manage the commercial delivery of all assigned projects and report financial results in a responsible manner to meet the needs of the business while developing client relationships. Flexible working from home available with 2-3 days in the office.
Responsibilities and Duties
The Quantity Surveyor responsibilities will be to:
- Produce contract Budgets, Costs to Complete and Cash Flow Forecasts to enable real time decisions to be made for the commercial benefit of LAWS and the client
- Manage the assets of the business efficiently
- Understand the contract programme in terms of critical path, Contractors float, Key dates, Completion date & Planned Completion as required by the contract
- Manage the procurement of Sub-contractors in a timely manner with competitive tenders wherever possible
- Client Management – create and maintain open communication with the client and assist the Divisional Business Manager with client related commercial issues
- Manage the client’s forecast cost to complete giving consideration to their project budget and the completion date
Desired Skills and Experience
- 5-6 years’ experience in relevant civil engineering, marine, groundworks or piling related contracting works. Additional years of experience welcome for Senior Quantity Surveyor role
- Experience of working in or around flowing and tidal waters desireble
- Comprehensive knowledge of NEC forms of contract
- Management of contracts up to £3million in value
- Operational experience of projects and understanding of construction contracts
- Submission of interim Applications for Payment
- Agreement of Final Accounts
- Cost Value reporting
- Client and Sub-contractor management on projects
- Excellent communication skills, ability to liaise and converse with clients in a professional manner
- Able to carry out site visits and be comfortable in and around river/coastal environment
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
- HND/Degree in Quantity Surveying or commercial management of construction contracts is desirable but not essential
