An exciting Mechanical Estimator/ Designer job to join a customer focused M&E organisation in Manchester. Responsible for preliminary design and associated take-offs, pricing and producing the final estimate to be incorporated into the final work product. The role is an office-based role to carry out estimating cost plans based upon conceptual documents as well as schematic, design development and construction documents for mainly design and build projects from all sectors of work ranging from £2 - £20m M&E packages.

The Mechanical Estimator role will interface with other estimating disciplines as well as the other members of the Project Team, Suppliers, Subcontractors and Owner Representatives.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • To produce prime cost plans incorporating to all scope requirements.
  • To estimate preliminary costs required to execute the projects.
  • Supporting the operational team with programming and reporting, ensure the quality for the team to progress site activities on time.
  • Respond to tender queries, prepare, and submit competitive tender packages and pricing from a range of £2m - £20m in accordance with the clients’ and subcontractors’ requirements.
  • Arrange enquiry documents of subcontractors to ensure the estimation is accurate and competitive.
  • Drawing ‘take offs’ – take off quantities from drawings.
  • Participate in the design development to assess buildability, materials, innovation, and cost effectiveness of proposals.
  • Maintain awareness, knowledge, and new methods of technical developments within the industry.
  • Liaise closely with electrical and construction estimators to capture all scope and check duplications are not made.
  • Produce costings with clarity on itemised prime costs and applied markups and margin.
  • Preparation of RFIs to ensure clients' requirements are clarified and achieved.
  • Correctly interpret the 3D model, drawings, and documents for takedown purposes.
  • Estimate materials, plant, prelims, and labour to provide complete priced cost plans.
  • Prepare in collaboration with the design team a risk and opportunities register.
Desired Skills and Experience
  • Previous experience in handling projects value from £2m - £20m.
  • A range of 9 – 10 years’ previous experience in the M&E field preferred, but at least 5 years of experience in estimating and design required.
  • Familiar with the M&E design and building of hotels, offices, and schools.
  • A good knowledge of the industry, emerging markets, and business opportunities.
  • Knowledge of legislation, requirements, and best practice.
  • Experience of using various take-offs and estimating software.
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
  • Experience with recognised M&E companies with approximately £25m turnover.
