A Clerk of Works is required to work for an established Quantity Surveying and Property Consultancy. You will be based from home and will be responsible for inspecting and reporting on sites in Exeter and Bristol. Occasional travel to Devon/Cornwall will be required. Projects will largely be new build and refurbishment projects with a strong emphasis on the residential sector.

As Clerk of Works, you will need to demonstrate an ability in undertaking instructions of building works in progress on newly built residential sites. A good knowledge of current Building Regulations and Warranty provider standards is required. Suitable candidates for this exciting job will ideally live within the South West.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Act as the principal point of contact with the social housing client regarding construction quality on site.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills to ensure issues are resolved at an early stage.
  • Manage multiple social housing projects simultaneously and deploy excellent time management strategies.
  • Visit multiple sites regularly using the company car provided.
  • Provide the Administration team in head office with dictated reports and photographs following each site inspection.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of the building and housing industry, with a basic technical and construction awareness.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with clients, contractors, subcontractors, and colleagues.

  • Knowledgeable construction professional with experience in a similar role.
  • Good knowledge of building regulations and the ability to read construction drawings.
  • Experienced in the use of Microsoft Office 360 (e.g., Word, Outlook & Excel).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Great attention to detail and good time management.
  • Strong client-facing skills with demonstrable experience.
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
  • Clerk of Works ICWIC accredited / accreditation is beneficial.
  • Other designations such as CIOB, CABE, RICS, IFE will also be considered.
  • A formal qualification in construction, engineering or project management would be advantageous.
