We are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to work for a UK based, boutique design and build contractor whose focus is on water treatment plants in developing countries. To be suitable for this role you should be a traditional ‘QS’ with a main contracting background and strong civils experience, preferably with some experience in the mechanical and/or process plant sector. Projects will be based internationally, so you must be open to travel to developing countries, and live within a reasonable commute of Surrey, England where the main office is based.

You will be a Project Commercial Manager managing the commercial and contractual aspects of the project, reporting into the Group Director of Risk Proposals and reporting on the commercial progress of the project(s). You will be working on water treatment plants and water transport networks in developing countries.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Procurement and commercial / administration management of the Supply Chain
  • Preparing IFC
  • Reviewing, negotiating and recommending Subcontract Packages for Award
  • Progress Claim Assessment and Certification
  • Change Management (Variations and Claims)
  • Accrual preparation
  • Managing and administering supply contracts
  • Insurances, Bonds, Warranties and Retention Management
  • Dispute mitigation, negotiation and resolution
  • Head Contract management and administration
  • Progress Application preparation and submission
  • Ensuring Head Contract obligations are complied with from a contractual perspective, including notification of variations and claims (including Extension of Time Claims)
  • Management of Insurances, Bonds, Warranties and Retention Management
  • Stakeholder management, including Senior Leadership Team, and commercial / financial staff on the Project
  • Training and development of staff associated with the commercial and contract function
  • Leadership, motivation and inspiration, ensuring that at all times the commercial function provides the highest quality value and support to the Operations Team.

  • Main Contracting background
  • Medium to Large scale civil engineering project experience
  • Experience working on processing plants of some kind is a benefit
  • Ability to work alone, but with pride and a sense that you are part of a global team inspiring the next generation of chartered quantity surveyors.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • Degree qualified as a preference (B.Sc. (Hons) QS or equivalent)
  • Member of the RICS or ICES is a preference but not essential
