An exciting opportunity in the construction sector to join a large multidisciplinary consultancy in their Manchester office. The client can offer the chance to work on domestic and international projects and disputes, as well as providing industry-leading training and support to enhance your Quantum analysis skills. This role would suit Directors currently working within a disputes consultancy who can demonstrate extensive quantum experience.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Working as a Quantum Expert in the Manchester office, you will collaborate with the Quantum team to prepare analysis and expert reports for high-value and complex arbitration and litigation proceedings.
- Lead the drafting of detailed expert witness reports for use in formal dispute resolution proceedings.
- Lead development of a contract and commercial strategy to successfully recover performance of distressed projects or major programmes in line with Client outcomes.
- Review and assess contemporaneous project records to establish quantum associated with claims and/or disputes.
- Conduct Quantum Forensic analysis of tender, contract, and claims documentation.
- Manage effective stakeholder relationships with the Client and at all levels of the supply chain, chairing meetings as necessary.
- Critically analyse project and major programme performance, identifying root causes of distress.
- Provide strategic advice at all stages of the construction life cycle.
- Proactively manage cash flow.
- Experience in developing and pursuing claims up or down the supply chain.
- Undertake research and development of emerging industry-related technologies while keeping up with developments in your technical area of expertise.
- Manage, support, and guide Junior staff working with you on specific tasks.
- Support the interface with the client and other consultants at all project stages.
- Win and deliver new work for the employer.
- Act as an ambassador championing the Contract Services delivered by the consultancy in the industry.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- 10+ years of relevant construction and engineering industry experience.
- Experience of working on claims matters related to major or complex projects in a QS, contract administration, or engineering role prior to specialising in Quantum-related matters.
- Familiarity with claims and formal dispute proceedings.
- Ability to lead a dispute, testify, and be cross-examined.
- Experience in performing detailed Quantum Forensic Analysis is expected.
- Ability to bring in new clients and work.
- Good knowledge of common contracts such as NEC, JCT, and FIDIC.
- Knowledge of relevant applications and technologies in the quantity surveying and commercial management industry, for example, BCIS, Cost-X, CEMAR.
- Experience in leading the pursuit of claims up or down the supply chain, leading to successful negotiated resolutions.
- Ability to understand and articulate Client requirements and their desired outcomes.
- Strong report writing skills are essential; candidates who can demonstrate prior report writing evidence will be looked upon very positively.
Qualifications/Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management or a similar degree in construction.
- Master’s degree in applicable construction specialism, preferably a construction law LLM or similar.
- Ideally MRICS, MInstCES or equivalent qualified or working towards Chartership.
