Building Inspector job role to work for an established Quantity Surveying and Property Consultancy. You will be based from home and will be responsible for inspecting and reporting on sites around Cambridgeshire.

Candidates are required to have a good knowledge of current Building Regulations and Warranty provider standards.

Project Details

Projects will largely be new build and refurbishment projects with a strong emphasis on residential sector projects. As Building Inspector / Clerk of Works, you will need to demonstrate an ability in undertaking instructions of building works in progress on newly built residential sites. A Clerk of Works job to cover the Cambridgeshire area; suitable candidates will ideally live within Cambridgeshire.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Act as the principal point of contact with the social housing client regarding construction quality on site.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills to ensure issues are resolved early and all stakeholders are satisfied with the quality of the construction process and the social housing end product.
  • Manage multiple social housing projects simultaneously, deploying excellent time management strategies to ensure efficient working practices.
  • Visit multiple sites regularly using the company car provided.
  • Provide the Administration team in head office with dictated reports and photographs following each site inspection for timely report issuance and follow-ups.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of the building and housing industry, with basic technical and construction awareness and competence.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with clients, contractors, subcontractors, and colleagues.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Knowledgeable construction professional with experience in a similar role, such as Clerk of Works, Employers Agent, or Building Control/Warranty Inspector.
  • Experience with social housing organisations, consultancies, or building contractors/housebuilders is highly desirable.
  • Good knowledge of building regulations and ability to read construction drawings.
  • Experienced in Microsoft Office 360 (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Strong client-facing skills with demonstrable experience.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • Clerk of Works ICWIC accredited; other designations like CIOB, CABE, RICS, IFE will also be considered.
  • A formal qualification in construction, engineering, or project management is advantageous.
