The position offers the opportunity for somebody known within construction and disputes in the Leeds area to grow a highly successful Delay business unit. A long-established multidisciplinary disputes consultancy is looking to expand its operations in Leeds. They are seeking an Associate Director with Delay experience within the construction and engineering sector.
The construction consultancy and dispute related services they provide include commercial management, planning, dispute resolution and expert witness services. Typical projects they provide services on include civil engineering, road, rail, building and PFI projects. As part of your role, you will be expected to work with a variety of clients from government organisations to contractors and subcontractors, across a range of sectors within the construction industry.
Responsibilities and DutiesAs an Associate Director within a leading multidisciplinary disputes consultancy, typical job duties will include:
- Developing and expanding business opportunities through utilisation of your own network of contacts and building new networks as part of your business development responsibilities
- Undertaking the forensic analysis of tender, contract and claims documentation
- Carrying out independent preparation of claims for loss and expense
- Performing independent preparation of adjudication documentation
- Taking responsibility for drafting written reports, setting out process, conclusions and recommendations
- Administering Standard Forms of Contract (JCT/NEC/FIDIC)
- Providing strategic advice at all stages of the construction life cycle
Most duties and responsibilities will be able to be carried out from the Leeds office; however, some meetings may have to be undertaken at different locations across the UK.
Desired Skills and ExperienceIt is expected that suitable candidates would have relevant skills and experience to be able to undertake the role. Key criteria are likely to include:
- Approximately 10 years experience including extensive experience within construction disputes
- Able to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of dispute resolution procedures and principles of contract law
- Extensive experience of major construction and engineering projects
- Proficiency in preparing, assessing and interrogating construction costs
- Experience of preparing Adjudication documentation
- Experience in preparing (or assisting with) Expert Witness Reports
- Exceptional communication skills in English both written and spoken
- Ability to operate and administer Standard Forms of Contract (JCT/NEC/FIDIC)
Suitable candidates will ideally be:
- Have achieved or be working towards a Construction Law MSc or Post Graduate Diploma (or equivalent)
