The successful candidate will work across a diverse portfolio of construction and infrastructure projects with both contractor and client-side organisations. The consultancy works on projects including rail, airports, roads, highways, residential, commercial, education, healthcare and more.
The role includes:
- Providing high-quality quantity surveying services to clients
- Leading commercial activities on projects and taking ownership of project delivery responsibilities
- Supporting the expert witness team on quantum claims
- Managing small to medium-sized projects or substantial elements of larger commissions
- Establishing client requirements for cost planning and cost estimating
- Advising on procurement strategies and commercial approaches
- Preparing tender and contract documentation
- Carrying out tender appraisals and providing procurement recommendations
- Monitoring, recording and reporting project costs
- Valuing completed works and arranging payments in accordance with contract requirements
- Preparing budgets, progress reports and cost value reconciliations
- Identifying commercial risks and assessing cost variations
- Maintaining variation records and risk registers
- Issuing notices in accordance with the contract conditions
- Producing project reports and claims-related reports
- Preparing and agreeing final accounts
- Attending and leading project meetings, providing commercial input and advice
- Keeping up to date with construction industry requirements and market developments
- Working collaboratively with advisory and expert teams where required
- Supporting and mentoring less experienced team members where appropriate
This vacancy is likely to appeal to candidates with an established QS background who are keen to broaden their experience within a consultancy offering cost management, advisory and dispute-related exposure. Desired skills include:
- Previous experience in a consultancy, contractor, developer or related commercial environment
- Strong numerical, commercial and data analysis skills
- Good understanding of cost planning, tendering, valuations and final accounts
- Ability to lead the delivery of both pre-contract and post-contract quantity surveying duties
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Positive approach to client care and problem solving
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Competent user of Microsoft Excel and Word
- Experience of working alongside expert witness and advisory professionals would be advantageous
- Ability to manage client relationships and support junior colleagues
Qualifications include a degree in Quantity Surveying or a closely related subject. MRICS achieved or working towards professional membership would be advantageous, although support towards this can be provided.
