A fantastic entry-level Quantum Consultant vacancy exists to assist a highly respected expert witness on an exciting variety of domestic and international disputes. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to get your foot into the world of construction disputes, working closely alongside a Who’s Who Legal (WWL) recommended expert.

You will work closely with the expert witness and provide analysis on numerous reports, receiving training and support to develop your skills and capabilities. This position can be based in London, Dubai or completed on a remote basis. As you will be working on international projects and disputes across Europe, Middle East and Africa markets, there may be occasional international travel involved.

In this Quantum Consultant role, you will gain exposure to an exciting variety of disputes related work. Your primary duty will be to assist the expert witness in carrying out analysis on numerous disputes at any one time. You will establish facts relevant to the nature, extent and causes of delay to all stages of the construction process on a wide range of construction and engineering project types, including (but not limited to): residential & commercial buildings, rail, metro and transport, stadiums, oil & gas related projects, large scale civil engineering, urban planning, schools, hospitals, hotels, railways, airports, power generation and renewable energy projects.

Types of work that you will gain exposure to supporting the expert witness on include:

  • Arbitration
  • Adjudication
  • Mediation
  • Litigation
  • General claims and project advisory services

Your primary role will be to provide support to the lead expert in carrying out methodical and thorough forensic analysis related to multiple disputes. You will be conducting methodical, thorough and detailed investigations and analysis (using a range of contemporaneous documents) to establish facts relevant to all stages of the construction process on a wide range of construction and engineering projects.

Whilst working with the expert, you will develop your skills and experience in a structured way with the long-term view of training you to eventually be able to carry out the lead expert role independently in the future.

To be clear, whilst this is likely an entry-level role into Quantum Consulting, this is NOT an entry level role into construction. Candidates will require circa 5+ years of experience as a minimum in a relevant role such as Quantity Surveying. This experience will be gained working with a contractor or developer. Hands-on experience with construction management/previous on-site experience is necessary. No prior experience in construction disputes or expert witness work is required. Full training and support can be offered.

High quality of presentational skills, both written and oral, is essential. It is important that all work generated is presented in a clear and structured manner (in the form of chronologies of events, internal file notes and spreadsheets), supported by clear cross-referencing to the relevant documents analysed. An appreciation for the time and cost constraints under which expert witness work is carried out is required. This necessitates managing work delegated to ensure the timely completion of tasks (to the quality expected) having regard to the overall timescale dictated by instructing solicitors/clients.

Ability to take on board, and react positively to, constructive criticism is important. The candidate should be driven and passionate about developing their skills and delivering a high standard of work. The ability to engage with confidence with solicitors and clients is also necessary, along with a keen desire to specialise in construction disputes and expert work.

An Undergraduate Degree in a relevant subject is required. An LLM/Masters degree in Construction law would be advantageous, but not necessary.

The hiring company is a small but highly reputable disputes consultancy with WWL-recommended Delay and Quantum expert in the business, which proudly offers a different working environment to the larger consultancy firms in the market. They are looking to hire an individual who sees the benefits of working for a smaller business and can embrace it. The client will be flexible on the candidates' working arrangements and is happy for the candidate to be based in London, Dubai or remote. However, regardless of where you base yourself, regular dialogue and meetings (internal and external) will be required to ensure that you are gaining adequate training and support as well as to ensure the work you are producing is to the required standard.
