Are you an experienced Fees Administrator, Fees Clerk or legal finance professional looking for a varied and rewarding opportunity within a highly regarded London Barristers' Chambers?
This is an excellent opportunity to join the finance team of an established and highly respected Chambers, working as part of a small, supportive team responsible for billing and credit control from start to finish.
Reporting to the Finance Director and working under the supervision of the Fees Manager, you will play an important role in supporting the efficient collection of members' fees, while providing a high standard of service to barristers, clerks and professional clients.
This is a busy and varied role, ideally suited to someone who is personable, proactive and highly organised, with the confidence to communicate with a wide range of people and the initiative to look beyond simply processing tasks.
You'll be encouraged to take ownership, investigate case history, adapt your approach and go the extra mile to ensure matters are resolved effectively.
Responsibilities
- Processing details of work completed by barristers and rendering fee notes and invoices, including multi-currency billing.
- Supporting the timely collection of members' fees and contributing towards Chambers' annual team collection target.
- Managing and monitoring WIP and aged debt, working closely with practice management teams, clerks and individual barristers.
- Dealing with routine and complex queries relating to fees, invoices and payments, liaising with barristers, clerks, Chambers members and professional clients by telephone, email and face-to-face.
- Building positive relationships with internal colleagues and professional clients, while confidently and diplomatically chasing outstanding payments and resolving non-payments, overpayments and underpayments.
- Processing member fee payments and supporting the management of relevant bank accounts.
- Providing ad-hoc support to the Fees Manager and Finance Director, working collaboratively with the wider finance team to maintain an efficient and responsive fees collection process.
Skills & Experience
- Around two years' experience in a similar fees, billing, credit control or finance administration role.
- Previous experience within barristers' chambers is desirable, although candidates from a law firm or wider professional services environment will also be considered.
- Experience using LEX or another legal case management/billing system is desirable, although LEX training will be provided.
- Highly organised and conscientious, with strong numerical ability, excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an excellent telephone manner and confidence building relationships and professionally chasing outstanding payments.
- A proactive, "can-do" approach, with the initiative to take ownership, investigate issues and find effective solutions rather than simply following processes.
- Able to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure within a busy, fast-paced team environment.
- Flexible, collaborative and keen to learn, with a strong team ethic and willingness to support colleagues when required. No formal qualification is required.
- The working hours are 8:30am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday, with four days per week working from Chambers in Central London and one day working from home.
