Job Summary
The post holder will participate in the delivery of high standards of care to patients and their families. In particular, take responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of evidenced-based nursing care to a group of patients. They will participate in the management of the ward when required, ensuring smooth and efficient running in the absence of the Ward Manager or Senior Staff Nurse. Responsibilities
- As a band 5 nurse, provide a family-centred approach to care and work as part of a large team.
- Care for children of all ages 0-18 years across medical specialties including CAMHS and eating disorders; wards include a High Dependency Unit, bespoke oncology service and a Paediatric Assessment Unit.
- Participate in education, development and supervision of staff; act as a clinical and professional role model for students and learners on placement.
- Coordinate discharge arrangements in accordance with NGH Discharge Policy; educate patients and carers as required; complete patient documentation; maintain a safe ward environment.
- Establish and monitor care pathways and protocols; promote effective written and verbal communication; maintain patient confidentiality.
- Supervise junior staff in the delivery of care; manage safe supply, storage, administration, checking and disposal of medications including controlled drugs.
- Follow Trust policy on expanded professional roles and participate in induction, competency programmes and annual appraisal; develop personal development plans and target learning needs.
- Promote evidence-based practice and contribute to audit initiatives; adhere to Trust policies and Health & Safety requirements.
- Manage resources responsibly and participate in budgeting awareness where applicable.
- Attend orientation and mandatory training; develop and sustain knowledge, clinical skills and professional awareness.
Qualifications
Essential
- RSCN/RN child or NMC Registration
- RMN/LD with Children\’s nursing experience
- Mentorship/Assessor and Supervisor experience

- Qualification in Oncology or HDU
