Our forward‑thinking Pharmacy Department is looking for motivated, enthusiastic individuals eager to develop their skills. We have a very strong team ethos with good support from peers and senior colleagues, working closely with the full MDT alongside medicines management technicians. We are in the process of implementing electronic prescribing and medicines administration on our children's inpatient wards (January 2026). Your fresh insights will be crucial in helping to develop the appropriate solution.

Responsibilities
- Provide a comprehensive specialist pharmacy service to all areas of the Child Health Directorate, including prescribing, support work and developing initiatives.
- Provide a Clinical and Specialist Pharmacist role.
- Plan, organise, monitor, control, and develop pharmacy staff.
- Lead service development and other duties/functions.
Clinical Services
- Provide information, advice and guidance on the safe, effective and economical use of medicines and challenge poor practice.
- Maintain appropriate standards of service and safety, enforcing guidelines, policies and procedures.
- Optimize medicines management by reconciling drug histories, performing medication reviews and using patients’ own medicines.
- Detect, record and report adverse drug reactions to the MHRA and via Datix.
- Record clinical activity and monitor outcomes of advice.
- Monitor interventions in treatment to identify training and information needs.
- Fulfil requirements of the Code of Ethics and Standards of Good Professional Practice.
- Participate in CQUINs and QIPPs within acute medical specialties.
- Implement countywide and local prescribing strategies within the Trust.
- Facilitate the expansion of tools within EPMA.
- Undertake validation duties in the dispensary.
- Supervise, check and, if necessary, undertake the supply of medicines; initial validation performed by pharmacists.
Speciality Clinical Pharmacy Role
- Develop expertise in paediatrics and neonatology.
- Obtain/maintain prescribing qualification and support consultant‑led ward rounds and clinics.
- Optimize medicines through prescribing within areas of competence, supporting the patient journey.
- Maintain current knowledge of national and local practice and guidance.
- Provide a specialist clinical pharmacy service, including enquiry answering for speciality‑related queries.
- Lead and support development and implementation of medicine‑related guidance, policies and procedures within the speciality area.
- Lead and support data collection on medicine use within the Child Health Directorate.
- Identify new opportunities for pharmacy service development and assist with business case preparation.
- Support the Lead Pharmacist Paediatrics in attending clinical governance meetings for the Child Health Directorate.
Management & Supervision
- Line‑manage and lead staff allocated, conducting appraisals, supervision and training development.
- Assist in induction of staff and identify training needs.
- Maintain service standards and enforce guidelines.
- Lead in recruitment of junior pharmacists or other pharmacy staff as required.
Education & Training
- Attend clinical pharmacy meetings and education/training schemes relevant for the post.
- Provide formal and informal training of pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals.
- Act as a supervisor on the Clinical Pharmacy Diploma course.
- Supervise aspects of pre‑registration training.
- Provide information to patients, parents and carers on admission, discharge and outpatient clinics, addressing language barriers when needed.
- Maintain up‑to‑date clinical knowledge and justify personal CPD responsibility.
Other Duties
- Undertake duties elsewhere in the locality when required.
- Participate in on‑call duties.
- Provide pharmacy service at weekends.
