Are you passionate about healthcare and helping others in a challenging acute hospital environment? We need an enthusiastic and proactive individual to join our Therapies Department at Northampton General Hospital.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver therapy care to patients as part of the multi-disciplinary team at NGH.
- Provide specific evidence-based treatment under indirect supervision and guidance of a registered therapist.
- Contribute to departmental developments, governance, and the Trust’s vision.
- Assist in the administration and day-to-day operation of the Therapy services.
- Work independently and within a team setting across rotations such as Surgery, Stroke, Acute Medicine, Elderly Medicine, Respiratory, Trauma & Orthopaedics, Urgent Care and Frailty.
- Implement and record planned programmes of care and comprehensive functional and mobility treatment of patients directed by a therapist.
- Communicate effectively with patients, carers and multi-disciplinary team members, including those with communication barriers.
- Make recommendations for equipment, care provision and ongoing rehabilitation.
- Support patients through instruction and guidance in a range of activities and achieve identified treatment goals.
- Participate in home visits and other therapy/treatment sessions alongside a therapist.
- Provide advice, teaching and demonstration of safe use of equipment or techniques to optimise mobility, functional ability and independence.
- Build professional relationships with patients, families and carers, respecting diversity and individuality.
- Produce effective verbal and written reports to Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and other multi-disciplinary team members.
- Contribute to service governance groups (e.g. Infection Prevention, Health & Safety, Fire Safety) as an active participant.
- Participate in team/departmental audit and evaluation sessions.
- Maintain clean, tidy and well‑maintained work areas, complying with Health & Safety and Infection Prevention guidelines.
- Exercise good personal time management, punctuality and reliable attendance.
- Submit accurate claim forms for weekend and additional hours worked.
- Work flexibly, including a 7‑day working pattern.
- Notify the team leader of periods of sickness promptly.
- Work flexibly to meet prioritised needs of therapy services during planned or unplanned leave.
- Comply with guidelines for safe use, care and maintenance of equipment and stock.
- Manage designated tasks such as lease car maintenance and equipment orders.
- Assist in the induction, training and education of other staff and students.
- Maintain accurate records of clinical interventions in line with legal, organisational and Trust requirements.
- Collect, record and submit accurate clinical and personal statistical data.
- Participate in team meetings, service training sessions and lead where appropriate.
- Complete required competencies and rotational objectives within agreed timescales.
- Identify learning and development needs, contribute to a Continual Personal Development Plan.
- Undertake relevant training and development activities to meet agreed learning needs.
- Record training and development activities and reflect on learning outcomes.
- Incorporate up-to-date therapy and manual handling techniques into practice.
- Prioritise clinical and non‑clinical tasks in conjunction with colleagues.
- Seek supervision from a therapist when complex patient situations arise.
- Comply with the Royal College of Occupational Therapists and Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, NHS policy, protocols and guidelines.
- Review and reflect on own practice and participate in regular supervision and annual appraisal.
