Responsibilities
- Promote collaborative working partnerships and effective communication within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Maintain and develop clinical skills and PREP requirements, including attendance at Trust mandatory training; observe the NMC Code of Conduct.
- Provide patient/client care: assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual programmes of care; ensure clinical practice is evidence-based and clinically effective.
- Maintain standards of recordkeeping in the practice setting using accepted standards.
- Support the Ward Manager in clinical developments.
- Represent the views of women, carers and staff at all levels to ensure their voices are heard.
- Provide midwifery care to women during antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods across all settings (home, GP, children’s centres, hospital).
- Engage in service development and implementation; assess and teach others in the clinical setting.
- Participate in Preceptorship and Mentorship within clinical settings; attend updates, refresher study sessions and mandatory study days.
- Input information and maintain working knowledge of hospital and Maternity information systems; attend training on implementation of Maternity Information System.
- The role includes on-call duties and will be rotational within different areas of Maternity (inpatient, outpatient, and community) depending on clinical need.
- Engage in research and development: understand audit processes and methods of critical appraisal; demonstrate clinical competence and fitness for practice; participate in clinical audit and evaluation; promote and disseminate findings; contribute to quality monitoring of women-centered care.
- Personal skills: maintain professional profile and revalidation; identify training needs and address through Trust appraisal; stay aware of midwifery issues on the national agenda; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; coordinate team responsibilities, capabilities and workload.
- Other duties as required; adhere to NHS Constitution duties and applicable policies and procedures; work toward corporate/divisional/department objectives and standards; undertake required training and ensure renewal as needed.
Research & Development
- Knowledge of audit processes and methods of critical appraisal; participate in clinical audit and evaluation of practice; promote dissemination of audit findings; contribute ideas for quality improvement in women-centered care.
Personal/Professional Development
- Maintain personal professional profile and revalidation; identify and address training needs; keep abreast of national midwifery issues and NHS codes of conduct.
