We are currently recruiting for at least one Investment Manager to join Maven’s Investment Team on a full‑time, permanent basis, based in our Reading or Reigate office. The successful candidate will have a rare opportunity to join an experienced investment house deploying growth capital funds across the South East of England. Maven is one of the most active investors in the UK with our experienced team backing a diverse range of high growth entrepreneurial businesses across a range of sectors.
You will be a core member of the Investment Team in the South East, helping to identify, appraise and partner with the most exciting high growth businesses in the region, as well as supporting the growth of existing portfolio companies. Maven regards this exposure to both investment and portfolio management as the best way of developing highly skilled investment practitioners.
The core focus of the role will be supporting Maven’s growth capital investments across the SE but outside of London, typically ranging in size from £500,000 up to £5 million across a range of sectors and investment types.
The role & responsibilities:
- Generate new business introductions and relevant investment opportunities for Maven by leveraging existing networks, as well as building new relationships with ecosystem players including VCs, operators, angel investors, accountants, lawyers, brokers and corporate finance advisors to generate deal flow.
- Support investment team members in coordinating deal flow analysis and deal tracking via internal reporting systems.
- Attend and actively participate in management presentations and business meetings.
- Undertake detailed analysis of investment opportunities including initial appraisal, due diligence, financial modelling, building the investment thesis and writing internal Maven investment papers for the Investment Committee.
- Present investment opportunities and deal structures to the Maven Investment Committee and management teams, assisting in the negotiation of terms and legal documentation.
- Review and consider due diligence findings and help negotiate investment documentation.
- Help drive deal timetable and deliver completed transactions in required timescales.
- Work with investment and portfolio colleagues to support regular board and investee company meetings.
- Develop a productive relationship with investee businesses to support their growth and exit planning.
- Monitor performance, including cash requirements, challenge strategy and utilise Maven’s network to assist management teams.
- Undertake information gathering for internal monitoring purposes and for preparation of presentations to client funds.
- Input monthly management account and budget information into internal reporting systems.
What you need to succeed:
- At least five years’ relevant work experience in venture investing, corporate finance, SME funding, strategy consulting or a professional advisory role such as law, with a focus on high growth SMEs.
- Professional qualifications desirable, but not mandatory.
- Confident, highly numerate and literate, analytical with strong attention to detail.
- Strong self‑reliance, administration, time‑management and organisational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, business development and negotiation skills, capable of prioritising and working under pressure.
- Team player with the ability to work independently and use initiative.
- Personable, able to build trust, rapport and confidence with a wide range of stakeholders including management, consultants, advisors and non‑executive directors.
- Ability to digest and process large amounts of information quickly and remain inquisitive and proactive about industry trends.
- Strong proficiency in Excel and financial modelling.
- Strong desire to work in, support, and make a positive impact on the business community across the South East of England.
- Resilient and resourceful when facing challenging situations.
- Ability to multi‑task and adapt using planning and organisational skills in a fast‑paced, small team environment.
