We are currently recruiting for an Investment Associate to join Maven’s Investment Team on a full-time, permanent basis, based in Reading or Reigate. The role will be based in either our Reading or planned Reigate office, but there will be travel across the South of England and some flexibility for home working when appropriate.
Maven is one of the most active investors in the UK with our experienced team backing a diverse range of high growth entrepreneurial businesses across a range of sectors. You will be a core member of the Investment Team in the South East, helping to identify, appraise and partner with the most exciting high growth businesses in the region, as well as supporting the growth of existing portfolio companies. Maven regards this exposure to both investment and portfolio management as the best way of developing highly skilled investment practitioners.
The core focus of the role will be supporting Maven’s growth capital investments across the SE but outside of London, typically ranging in size from £500,000 up to £5 million across a range of sectors and investment types.

The role & responsibilities:
- Undertaking analysis of new business opportunities, including due diligence and contributing to the production of investment papers to be presented to Maven’s Investment Committee.
- Providing assistance to investment managers and directors throughout the deal process from opportunity identification through to deal completion, including on occasions working with the office support team to ensure that compliance aspects of the deal are captured and managed.
- Assisting in portfolio management of investee business to understand the dynamics of business growth, including analysis of management accounts and board packs and accompanying the Investment Managers/Directors to Board meetings (where relevant).
- Attendance of local business networking events to raise Maven’s profile with potential investees and investment intermediaries.
What you need to succeed:
- Minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience.
- Analytical skills – numerate with an ability to research new industry sectors, assimilate information quickly and infer appropriate conclusions and recommendations.
- Clear and professional verbal and written communication style, with strong attention to detail.
- Team player with an ability to collaborate well with colleagues at all levels.
- Business development and relationship management skills – an ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders and develop a professional network.
- Organisational skills – ability to multi-task, work to and meet deadlines.
- Business knowledge – understanding of the commercial parameters that businesses operate within and adopt a professional approach to dealing with potential investee companies.
- Excellent academic track record.
- Holds a professional Accountancy or investment related qualification.
- Work experience in an environment such as venture investing, corporate finance, SME funding, strategy consulting or professional advisory including law, or other experience directly concerning high growth SMEs and their funding.
