We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Head and Neck Advanced Surgical Oncology Fellow to join our dynamic team. This fellowship provides a unique opportunity for advanced training and specialization in the field of head and neck surgical oncology under the guidance of leading experts. The appointment is a full‑time, 12‑month clinical fellowship, exposing candidates to all areas of otolaryngological head and neck surgery, including robotic surgery and free tissue pharyngeal reconstruction. It is designed to develop skills to a level that will enable independent practice as a Head & Neck Surgeon. Clinical and educational supervision will be provided by the fellowship directors.

Main duties of the job:

  • Provide head and neck surgical oncology services, including benign head and neck disease.
  • Support head and neck emergency cases and ward patients during working days; may contribute to mid‑tier out-of‑hours on‑call provision.
  • Assist in the training of junior doctors (F2 – ST2) and medical students entering the department.

Training & Qualifications:

  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice in the UK
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • FRCS (ORL-HNS) or equivalent
  • Five years experience as a Type 1 (NTN/VTN) Specialist Registrar in ENT or equivalent
  • ALS/ATLS/CCrISP certification
  • Distinction, prizes or honours during postgraduate training

Experience:

  • Good and wide‑ranging recent experience of ENT in acute inpatient settings in large acute hospitals.
  • Evidence of a commitment to a special interest in Head & Neck Surgery.
  • Competent to work without direct supervision.

Communication and Relationship Skills:

  • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English.

Teaching, Audit and Research:

  • Able to teach and support junior staff effectively.
  • Evidence of completed audit projects.
  • Peer‑reviewed journal publications (including audit and original research).
  • Evidence of successful grant applications.

Analytical and Judgement Skills:

  • Awareness of limitations and when to escalate concerns.

Planning and Organisation:

  • Able to prioritise and manage time effectively.

Other Requirements:

  • Able to work flexibly in a changing health service.
