Job overview

We are looking to recruit a Consultant Psychological Therapist, passionate about early intervention, to lead the CUES team and work in partnership with local primary schools and CAMHS clinical services.

The CUES team develops and delivers digital and in-person mental health promotion and early intervention programmes to children in school, clinical and community settings.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead the CUES team and work in partnership with local primary schools and CAMHS services.

They will design, lead, manage and plan the delivery of all of the CUES interventions, including digital programmes and adaptations for specific populations. The post holder will be responsible for the management of staff in the CUES Service and ensure further research is conducted relevant to new developments.

The successful candidate will be registered with/accredited by the psychological therapy professional body as appropriate to their discipline (HCPC/APC/UKCP/BABCP). They will be asked to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure. Working for our organisation

The CUES team is based at the Michael Rutter Centre, De Crespigny Park Rd adjacent to the Maudsley Hospital. Our Trust headquarters is also located at Denmark Hill less than 5 minutes from the train station (zone 2). We also provide services and operate across other locations, such as the London boroughs of Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark; and substance misuse services for residents of Bexley, Lambeth, Greenwich and Wandsworth.

We are proud to offer flexible working as part of our new ways of working, and we are happy to talk flexible working at the interview stage. In this role, you will mostly be expected to work Monday to Friday from 9 to 5, but most staff are requested to work later (also starting later) once per week, but this can be negotiated. (This may include working early mornings or late evenings and some Saturdays as part of the core working hours/working pattern for this post). On-site working a minimum of four days will be required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To design, lead, manage and plan the delivery of the CUES interventions within schools, clinical and community services and to personally provide expert clinical input.
  • To be responsible to the N&S Outpatient lead for Psychology and Psychotherapy for the monitoring and implementation of professional standards in the practice of applied psychology and psychotherapy in the CUES service and for the systematic and effective provision of professional supervision.
  • To contribute to enabling other staff, service users and carers, school children and teachers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.
  • To ensure the conduct of research, service evaluation and audits relevant to the CUES service and the CAG research agenda.
  • To be responsible for the good clinical governance, quality and appropriateness of the work of psychologists, psychotherapists and other team members within the CUES service.

Person specification

Qualifications

  • For Psychologists: Entry-level qualification in Applied Psychology (professional Doctorate, or combination of MSc plus PG Diploma level additional training) that has been accepted by the HCPC for purposes of professional registration. (A/I)
  • For Family/Systemic Psychotherapists: Post-graduate qualification in relevant mental health/social welfare profession and demonstrable practice in this field (A/I) PLUS Masters level qualification in Family and Systemic Psychotherapy or equivalent qualification, accredited by UKCP (A/I)
  • For Psychotherapists: Entry-level qualification in Psychotherapy that has been accepted by the APC/UKCP/BABCP/ACP for purposes of professional registration. (A/I)
  • For Arts Therapists: Masters Degree (or equivalent) in Arts Therapy or Dance Movement Therapy. (A/I)
  • Additional training beyond entry-level qualification in a specialised area of psychological practice (specify options required by the post) through formal post-qualification training (PG Diploma or equivalent), OR a combination of specialist short courses and/or an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice-based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice, assessed by a registered body and/or an experienced clinical supervisor to be of equal level to a Postgraduate Diploma or higher.   • Completed training course in clinical supervision and/or accredited to supervise qualified psychological practitioners in relevant discipline. (A/I/R)
  • Registered with/accredited by professional body as appropriate to discipline HCPC/APC/UKCP/BABCP/ADMP-UK (A/I)

Experience

  • Evidence of having worked as a clinical specialist under supervision in CAMHS teams. (A/I)
  • Evidence of having worked as a senior clinical specialist under supervision in schools. (A/I)
  • Experience of carrying out service evaluation and research (A/I)
  • Experience of working with external digital and media agencies (A/I)
  • Experience of acting in a senior leadership role within a clinical team with workforce management responsibilities (A/I)
  • Experience of designing and providing digital and/or online psychological interventions.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of management and leadership. (A/I/R)
  • Advanced theoretical knowledge of psychopathology and the evidence base for anxiety and depression and ASD. (A/I/R)
