A multidisciplinary environmental consultancy is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Ecologist to join its growing team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with 4-5 years' experience in ecological consultancy to take the next step in their career, helping deliver a wide range of projects across diverse sectors including quarrying, rail, road, energy, and industrial.

Responsibility:

  • Lead and mentor team members, supporting the development of junior staff.
  • Manage project planning and resource allocation for ecological surveys.
  • Undertake a full range of habitat and protected species surveys, including specialist areas.
  • Produce high-quality technical reports and review work completed by others.
  • Support client engagement on large and complex projects.
  • Contribute to business development and help win new work.
  • Provide input on budgets, tenders, and project management.
  • Ensure high standards in health & safety across team operations.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Ecology or a related field (BSc essential; MSc desirable).
  • Associate membership of CIEEM, with intention to progress to Full membership.
  • Specialist knowledge of Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) and UK Habitat Surveys.
  • Proven experience in a range of protected species surveys (e.g. bats, GCN, dormice), ideally holding relevant licences.
  • Strong understanding of UK/EU legislation, planning policy, and industry standards.
  • Experience across various sectors, with proficiency in at least one or two.
  • Skilled in data analysis, GIS mapping, and interpretation.
  • Strong report writing skills, including contributions to EIAs and other complex documents.
  • Experience with project budgeting, client liaison, and fee proposals.
  • Confident in providing advice to clients with minimal oversight.
  • 24 days annual leave plus bank holidays (increasing with length of service).
