At Johnson Matthey, your work will matter. As a Mechanical Engineering Apprentice, you’ll join a world leader in platinum group metals with over 200 years of history. Using advanced metals chemistry, you’ll help tackle the world’s biggest challenges – cutting emissions, powering modern life and supporting life‐saving technologies – by applying, refining and recycling metals that matter for a healthier, more sustainable, circular future.

The role:

  • Supporting the mechanical maintenance team with planned and reactive maintenance activities across site
  • Learning to maintain and repair mechanical plant equipment including pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, valves and pipework
  • Assisting with fault finding, inspections and basic mechanical fitting under supervision
  • Following safe systems of work and site safety procedures, taking responsibility for personal safety and correct use of PPE
  • Completing apprenticeship coursework and maintaining a training and development portfolio

Key skills that will help you succeed in this role:

  • A minimum of 4 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades A*–C including English, Maths and Science
  • An interest in engineering, mechanics or practical subjects
  • A strong awareness of safety and willingness to follow procedures
  • Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to work
  • The ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with others
