As an Instrument & Control Engineer in our fast-paced R&D environment, working in a multi-disciplined team. The role will include designing, commissioning, troubleshooting and optimising pilot plants and bespoke process development equipment as well as site utility & infrastructure assets, spanning multiple Business Units across Teesside.

Your responsibilities:
- Creating and preparing innovative designs and specifications for bespoke Research Engineering equipment to facilitate delivery of business-critical research and manufacturing programmes.
- Ensuring plant automation systems are available for use when required and have relevant safeguards in place such as suitable system back-ups, an effective maintenance schedule, follow appropriate Management of Change processes, have up to date system documentation available, etc.
- Ensuring equipment designs meet site and statutory specification.
- Identifying design solutions to complex problems and to continuously improve the effectiveness and reliability of bespoke Research Engineering equipment.
- Preparing test methods and schedules for compliance testing of new and existing research engineering and site utility equipment, including safety critical system inspections to meet the requirements of company safety policy and legislative guidelines.
- Diagnosing and troubleshooting sub-optimal equipment performance and working alongside customers to design efficient and robust solutions.
- Carrying out and approving design calculations for safety critical equipment ensuring full compliance with all relevant codes, EHS standards and Life Saving Policies. Responsible for design approval.
- Collaborating with and providing technical expertise to all stakeholders and colleagues during installation, commissioning, modification and troubleshooting of research engineering and site utility equipment.
- Specifying and procuring equipment to support projects, upgrades/modifications, preventative maintenance programmes and repairs, including preparation and control of single or multiple project budgets in the region of £100K.
- Interest in expanding automation knowledge, working with experienced control engineers to address maintenance issues onsite, expanding Emerson DeltaV hardware and software knowledge in role.
- Knowledge of all standard instrumentation and good grasp of E&I deliverables. Any AutoCAD experience would be of benefit but not essential.
Requirements for the role:
- HNC/HND/Degree, or equivalent experience, in Engineering or Design.
- Knowledge of instrumentation and control system design.
- Experience of carrying out maintenance and making modifications to a Distributed Control System.
- Understands process safety management and the framework to achieving process safety (such as management of change).
- Knowledge, skill and attitude to safely resolve E&I plant problems autonomously, managing own workload.
- Excellent communicator, both written and oral.
- Delivery focused to business-critical timescales and able to work under pressure.
