The Company
We are working in partnership with a well-established Midlands-based Mechanical & Electrical Design & Build contractor, delivering technically robust, cost-effective, and energy-efficient solutions across industrial and commercial sectors.
The business has built a strong reputation through long-standing client relationships, high-quality project delivery, and an integrated in-house design and delivery model. Due to continued growth, they are now looking to appoint an HVAC Mechanical Estimator with some design exposure to strengthen their Mechanical Projects team.
The Role
As HVAC Mechanical Estimator, you will play a key role in the pre-construction and bid process, producing accurate and competitive cost estimates for HVAC and mechanical services projects.
Working closely with in-house design engineers, project managers, and senior leadership, you will contribute not only to pricing but also to design optimisation, value engineering, and commercial strategy.
This role would suit an experienced estimator who enjoys working within a Design & Build environment and wants to be involved earlier in the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Review drawings, specifications, and tender documentation to produce detailed HVAC and mechanical cost estimates
- Complete accurate take-offs for materials, labour, plant, and equipment
- Liaise with design teams to review system layouts and contribute to cost-effective design solutions
- Analyse subcontractor and supplier quotations for accuracy, compliance, and competitiveness
- Prepare professional tender submissions, pricing schedules, and bid packages
- Support value engineering exercises to reduce cost while maintaining performance and quality
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site surveys, and post-tender reviews as required
- Work closely with Project Managers and Engineers to ensure estimates align with delivery strategy
- Maintain structured records of all estimates, bids, and cost data
- Stay informed on market trends, material pricing, and labour rates
Candidate Profile
- HNC / HND or Degree in Mechanical Services, Building Services, or related discipline
- 7+ yearsβ experience in HVAC / Mechanical estimating, ideally within a Design & Build contractor
- Strong technical understanding of HVAC systems and mechanical services
- Proficient in estimating software and Excel-based pricing models
- Exposure to HVAC design software and design coordination is highly desirable
- Excellent ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Strong commercial awareness with a detail-focused, analytical approach
- Confident communicator, able to collaborate across design, commercial, and delivery teams
- Comfortable working autonomously while contributing within a team environment
