The Opportunity

We are recruiting for an experienced Production Supervisor to join a well-established manufacturing business. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing a weaving production shift, ensuring operational performance, product quality, safety compliance and team development. The successful candidate will lead a team of experienced operators and trainees, driving production efficiency while promoting a positive, high-performance culture. This role requires a proactive supervisor who can analyse production issues, identify improvements and support continuous development across the department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Shift Leadership & Team Management
    • Lead and supervise a dedicated weaving production shift, taking responsibility for safety, quality, productivity and team performance.
    • Manage and support a team consisting of both experienced weavers and trainees, adapting leadership style to individual needs and experience levels.
    • Provide day-to-day coaching, guidance and performance feedback to ensure operational standards are achieved.
    • Build strong working relationships through visible leadership, consistency and fair decision-making.
    • Identify training and development requirements within the team and support ongoing skills development.
    • Address attendance, conduct and performance issues professionally, working closely with the Production Manager where required.
    • Ensure effective communication across shifts, delivering thorough handovers to maintain production continuity.
  • Production Performance & Continuous Improvement
    • Take ownership of shift production targets, monitoring output, downtime, efficiency and quality performance.
    • Investigate and challenge the root causes of loom stoppages, production delays and operational inefficiencies.
    • Work closely with the Production Manager, Planning Team and Data Analyst to review performance data and identify trends.
    • Prioritise workloads in line with production schedules, customer requirements and operational demands.
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, machine utilisation and process efficiency.
    • Support the reduction of non-value-added activities and promote a right-first-time manufacturing culture.
    • Contribute ideas and solutions to improve job changeovers, workflow and overall operational effectiveness.
  • Technical & Quality Oversight
    • Maintain a strong understanding of weaving operations, loom performance, cloth construction and manufacturing processes.
    • Ensure job changes, tie-ons and first-off inspections are completed correctly and meet required quality standards.
    • Monitor quality performance and support initiatives aimed at reducing second-quality fabric and recurring production issues.
    • Work alongside technical specialists and maintenance teams to resolve process or machinery-related concerns.
    • Provide hands-on operational support when required, while maintaining a primary focus on supervision and leadership responsibilities.
    • Ensure compliance with all company quality standards, operating procedures and health & safety requirements.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Previous experience within a Production Supervisor, Shift Supervisor or Team Leader position within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience within textiles, weaving, fabrics or similar production processes would be highly advantageous.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate and develop teams.
  • Good understanding of production KPIs, performance monitoring and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement practical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Strong commitment to health, safety and quality standards.
