Purpose of the role: As the Transport Team Manager, you will be responsible for the smooth management of our transport operation, ensuring costâeffective delivery of services, compliance with Health & Safety and regulatory standards, and the achievement of key people and operational KPIs. You will lead the transport team and oversee the fleet on a dayâtoâday basis, supporting the wider management team and driving continuous improvement across all areas of the operation.
Core Accountabilities:
- Manage labour usage within the transport team, ensuring tasks are covered efficiently and costâeffectively.
- Deliver all items to agreed customer specifications, minimising wastage and maintaining quality standards.
- Ensure operational costs are managed in line with company directives.
- Communicate proactively with internal and external stakeholders regarding operational issues.
- Deliver daily, weekly, and monthly plans to meet customer and company needs.
- Implement changes based on customer, crew, and stakeholder feedback.
- Ensure fleet readiness and compliance for continuity of supply.
- Support the preparation of monthly reports and analyse crew performance for optimal results.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and legal standards, including documentation and audits.
- Manage fleet compliance, defect reports, servicing, and MOTs.
- Monitor adherence to company policies and procedures, including risk assessments.
- Complete investigations into accidents/incidents and follow up on corrective actions.
- Proactively manage team performance, training, and development.
- Foster a positive, safe, and productive working environment.
- Lead by example, motivate and develop team members, and drive operational improvements.
About you:
- Experience in a management role within a fastâmoving environment such as FMCG or logistics.
- Proven ability to manage, develop, and inspire teams, with strong fleet management experience.
- A passion for delivering premium service and a commitment to quality and Health & Safety.
- Excellent people management skills, including performance management, team building, and handling disciplinary issues.
- Strong problemâsolving abilities and a track record of generating innovative solutions.
- Ability to multiâtask and work under pressure to tight deadlines.
- Effective planning, organisation, and delegation skills, with attention to detail.
- Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Flexibility to manage work patterns as required.
- A positive approach and willingness to take on reasonable tasks as requested by management.
- Knowledge of warehousing and distribution systems, transport laws and regulations, cost control, and Health & Safety.
Qualifications:
- Road Haulage Transport Managers CPC qualification (Standard National) â Essential
- IOSH Managing Safely â Desirable
- Proficient in MS Office Suite â Essential
