We have an exciting opportunity to join our Engineering Team as a Controls Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the business to provide expert technical support to engineering and operations with a specialist responsibility for machine drive & control system technologies. Develop and implement continuous improvements programs to deliver gains in manufacturing safety, quality, productivity and efficiency. Break down support & problem solving to root cause. Coaching and development of the engineering team while working within a continuous improvement environment.

This role is in our site in Gilberdyke, East Yorkshire, UK and reports to the site Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities

What are the key tasks you carry out in your job?

  • Diagnose complex machine faults and control system errors promptly to minimise machine downtime, applying permanent countermeasures to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Develop and implement projects to drive improvement in manufacturing availability, product quality, employee safety and process efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the manufacturing process and operating sequences of the CAT 1 manufacturing processes.
  • Coach and develop the maintenance engineering team members’ knowledge of machine control and automation systems.
  • Record and update electrical system documentation following change.
  • Investigation into plant failures (FMEA) and report writing.
  • Provide second level support to shift teams in reactive maintenance situations.
  • Complete obsolescence reviews and create plans to minimise risk.

Experience of working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, on a range of different equipment. Understanding and experience of PLC fault finding, diagnostics and program writing to source code level with: Siemens S5/71, Telemecanique PL7, Allen Bradley, Omron. Fault finding and writing programmes for 6 axis robotic handling equipment. Knowledge of requirements for machine safety control systems according to BS EN ISO 13849-1. Experience of designing and modifying electrical control circuits and systems whilst complying with legislative requirements and best practice. Knowledge of inverter and servo drive systems, parameterisation and tuning. Experience of delivering projects on-time and to budget. HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent and BS7671 17th Edition. Apprentice trained C&G 2391 or equivalent would be advantageous.

Required Education & Skillsets:

  • The jobholder will be suitably qualified for the role held, must be a time-served Engineer, having completed a recognised apprenticeship or equivalent including international conversion and engage in continuous professional development.
  • Demonstrable experience in fulfilling the main requirements of the role.
  • Experience of a fast-moving manufacturing environment would be beneficial.
