Are you ready to shape the future of data? Matillion is the company behind Maia, the AI Data Automation platform. In the AI economy, demand for data is exploding. Manual data engineering can’t keep up. Maia fixes that by combining 15 years of data expertise with agentic AI to eliminate the manual work that slows data teams down. Organisations like Cisco, DocuSign, and Slack are already using it to deliver real business impact, faster. We started in Manchester and now we’re global - with teams across the UK, US and India. We are driven, curious, energetic people who move fast, think big and hold ourselves to a high standard. We’re here to make a dent in the universe bigger than ourselves. And we’re looking for people who want to be part of it.

Role Purpose: Matillion is built around small development teams with responsibility for specific themes and initiatives. Each team is a mix of engineers with various levels of skills and experience. As a Senior Quality Engineer you will bring technical guidance and demonstrable experience in integrating quality checks throughout our development cycle. The ambition is to deliver our services in the most efficient, controlled and high quality way possible. Outside of day to day delivery you will also support the overall quality journey within Engineering.

What will you be doing?

  • As a Senior Quality Engineer at Matillion, you will spend significant time testing our software products, ensuring quality throughout the development process.
  • You will help maintain and improve existing quality frameworks while promoting a shift-left approach to testing.
  • You'll work with a variety of tools for automation, security, accessibility, and performance testing, while also honing your automation skills.
  • As part of a cross-functional team, you will drive the focus on quality, always keeping the customer’s needs in mind.
  • You will also contribute to identifying and improving areas in the overall quality journey, whilst also assisting in mentoring team members in developing their skills.

What are we looking for?

Essential:

  • Proficiency in managing end-to-end testing of SaaS applications, using various testing approaches (e.g., rapid, risk-based, exploratory, regression, security, usability, performance) suitable for distributed systems, with a strong understanding of the Test Pyramid and automation.
  • Experience developing and maintaining test automation tools (e.g., contract, integration, accessibility, performance, security) for applications and services, with coding skills in Java/JavaScript to implement frameworks like Cypress, Playwright and Pact.
  • Solid understanding of the full software development lifecycle using CI/CD tooling, agile methodologies (e.g., Kanban, Scrum), and a strong focus on ensuring quality from business, customer, and technical perspectives.
  • Experience with at least one cloud platform (AWS, GCP, Azure) and good knowledge of databases and SQL.
  • A collaborative team player with a QA mindset, eager to challenge and improve practices, and committed to continuous learning and personal development in quality engineering.

Personal Capabilities:

  • Inquisitiveness - asks questions to explore and understand the underlying technology, with the intent of leading to the most appropriate solutions.
