Are you ready to shape the future of data? Matillion is the company behind Maia, the AI Data Automation platform. In the AI economy, demand for data is exploding. Manual data engineering can’t keep up. Maia fixes that by combining 15 years of data expertise with agentic AI to eliminate the manual work that slows data teams down. Organisations like Cisco, DocuSign, and Slack are already using it to deliver real business impact, faster. We started in Manchester and now we’re global - with teams across the UK, US and India. We are driven, curious, energetic people who move fast, think big and hold ourselves to a high standard. We’re here to make a dent in the universe bigger than ourselves. And we’re looking for people who want to be part of it.

Design at Matillion is about balancing curiosity and a genuine love for innovation with real care for detail and craft. We're building Maia, our agentic AI platform that helps data teams design, build and manage data pipelines faster and with far less manual effort. For Product Design, this is an opportunity to shape how humans collaborate with AI to solve complex technical problems, from guiding users through pipeline creation to designing intelligent agents that generate, optimise and maintain workflows.

We are full-stack, end-to-end Product Designers. We don't separate strategy from execution, or discovery from delivery. As Lead Product Designer, you're not just responsible for excellent design work in your own area - you help teams around you make better decisions. You'll lead complex product initiatives, create alignment across squads and operate in ambiguous spaces where the business opportunity is clear but the product answer isn't. This is a highly influential role. You set the standard for the product and the team.

What you will be doing:

  • Leading major product initiatives that span multiple journeys, squads or product surfaces - setting design direction across complex problem spaces and helping teams understand what good looks like.
  • Working as a senior partner to Product and Engineering - shaping strategy and roadmap thinking, facilitating design sprints, discovery workshops and cross-functional decision-making forums.
  • Turning ambiguous business, customer and technical problems into clear product opportunities - designing and guiding end-to-end experiences from research through to delivery and iteration.
  • Using Claude and AI-native workflows to accelerate exploration and prototyping, while defining scalable interaction patterns for complex data workflows, AI agents and human-AI collaboration.
  • Raising the bar for craft across the team; coaching and supporting other designers through feedback, critique and pairing, and connecting design work to measurable business outcomes like adoption, activation and retention.

What we are looking for:

  • Significant experience designing complex products in SaaS, enterprise, AI, data or developer tooling environments, with proven ability to lead large, ambiguous initiatives from discovery through to delivery.
  • Strong strategic thinking; you connect customer problems, business goals and technical constraints, backed by a strong body of work showing influence, leadership and measurable impact.
  • Excellent end-to-end design capability and strong facilitation skills, with the confidence to run design sprints and workshops that create genuine clarity and momentum with senior stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of customer research and evidence-based decision making, alongside a strong interest in AI-native product development and emerging human–AI collaboration patterns.
  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, a business-minded and entrepreneurial approach, and a generous attitude towards coaching and growing the people around you.

At Matillion, we are committed to providing compensation in line with market standards based on the role, job family, job level and country. This role’s estimated annual salaried pay range for this position is £73,600 - £110,400. The final salary will be based on your relevant skills, experience, and qualifications demonstrated in the hiring process.

We operate a flexible working culture that promotes work-life balance, with benefits including:

  • Company Equity
  • 30 days holiday + bank holiday
  • 5 days paid volunteering leave
  • Private Health Insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • Pension
  • Access to mental health support
