About the opportunity
Are you a 2nd-year Computer Science student looking for a placement that will supercharge your learning and give you real-world experience at the forefront of technology?
At Matillion, we’re looking for curious, motivated students to join our development teams and help build innovative software that powers some of the world’s leading data platforms.
This placement role will be based from our Manchester city centre office, giving you the chance to collaborate closely with your team and experience our vibrant office environment.
What you\’ll be doing
- Dive straight into building, testing, and delivering new features while improving our products for real customers
- Work hands-on with Java and other technologies daily, from developing user interfaces to writing robust automated tests
- Collaborate in agile sprint teams—refining user stories, planning tasks, and contributing to team processes
- Leverage Generative AI-assisted tools like Gemini, Windsurf, and Claude Code to accelerate coding, testing, and debugging
- Learn from experienced engineers, participate in mentorship sessions, and gain insights into professional software development in a fast-moving, innovative environment
Who we\’re looking for
- Studying Computer Science (or a related subject) and on track for a 2:1 or above
- Programming experience, ideally in Java, gained through your course or personal projects, with a passion for building and problem-solving
- Curious about AI, SaaS platforms, cloud technologies (AWS, Kubernetes), and excited to explore these areas further
- Thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and eager to learn and grow as part of a team
