As one of Australia’s leading veteran charities, Mates4Mates supports current and ex-serving Defence Force members and families through our mental health and physical rehabilitation services, skills-based recovery programs, and social connection activities.

Mates4Mates services are delivered in person through purpose-built Veteran & Family Wellbeing Centres and online across Queensland, Tasmania and the Northern Territory.

About the Role

Our Exercise Physiologists work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver evidence-based and informed treatments to veterans and their families to address physical injury, mental health, pain, and chronic disease management. The role also provides a combination of individual and group treatment sessions and lead group exercise and education programs.

This role reports to the Clinical Lead – Physical Rehabilitation & Wellbeing Services and is accountable for being a part of the Veterans Services team. There may be a requirement to work flexible hours to run programs to meet client needs. Key responsibilities of the position include:

  • Undertake clinical assessments and implement and evaluate tailored evidence-based therapies to clients to support positive outcomes.
  • Communicate with relevant referrers in an effective manner that aligns with best practice, organisational values and legislative compliance.
  • Understand compliance requirements as a provider under funding programs delivered.
  • Contribute to the design, development, delivery and evaluation of Mates4Mates health and wellbeing programs and services, including group programs.
  • Liaising with external stakeholders to inform on and promote service delivery.
  • Undertake tasks under the direction of the Clinical Lead, to maintain a safe environment in the rehabilitation gym, including tasks related to infection control, client inductions, safety audits and follow-up, and maintenance.
  • Participate in regular ongoing supervision as prescribed under the directive of the Clinical Lead.
  • Maintain contemporary exercise physiology knowledge and practices and understand and work within personal and professional scope.

About you

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an exercise physiology position.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Exercise Physiology and full membership with ESSA as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist
  • Experienced in the treatment and management of musculoskeletal and neurological dysfunctions, as well as chronic disease and pain management.
  • Must hold a current Working with Children and national police checks valid for paid employment in your relevant state or territory.
  • Ability to work independently for clinical work, with support from a remote Clinical Lead and physical rehabilitation team.
  • Valid driver’s license

Additionally, experience in delivering exercise physiology to current or ex-serving Defence members and their families and experience in provision of both group and individual interventions such as hydrotherapy, Pilates, group conditioning classes will be highly regarded.
