Role Description

The Director of Business Development will lead the growth strategy for Materials Week, with a focus on expanding exhibitor participation, sponsorships, and strategic partnerships across all events. Day‑to‑day responsibilities include identifying and qualifying new business opportunities, managing the sales pipeline, and developing tailored proposals and commercial packages. The role involves building and maintaining relationships with key accounts, negotiating contracts, and coordinating with marketing, operations, and product teams to ensure successful event delivery and client satisfaction. This is a full‑time hybrid role based in Hove, with a mix of on‑site collaboration and work‑from‑home flexibility. The Director will also analyze market trends, provide revenue forecasts, and contribute to long‑term business planning for the Materials Week portfolio.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated strength in New Business Development and Lead Generation, including identifying target markets and converting prospects into long‑term partners.
  • Experience in Business Planning, with the ability to develop growth strategies, sales plans, and revenue projections for events or B2B services.
  • Proficiency in Contract Negotiation, including structuring agreements, managing commercial terms, and ensuring mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Proven Account Management skills, including relationship building, upselling, cross‑selling, and maintaining high levels of client satisfaction.
  • Background in events, exhibitions, or B2B media is highly advantageous; familiarity with materials, manufacturing, or related industries is a plus.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior decision‑makers.
