12 Month Fixed Term Contract at the National Composite Centre (NCC) in Bristol, with no hybrid working available.

Salary: £54,102 to £67,056 per annum (experience dependent) plus up to 12.5% employer pension & private medical insurance.

Shift Rota: Alternating shift pattern, 7am – 3pm, 8am – 2pm or 9am – 5pm.

Summary: We are looking for someone to provide cover for our Estates Manager during a 12-month absence, with an initial handover period of up to 2 months. This role will be accountable for our Emersons Green Headquarters and Filton sites, focusing primarily on our HQ. Responsibilities include:

  • Managing infrastructure and day-to-day facilities operations.
  • Ensuring all sites meet agreed facilities standards/service levels.
  • Delivering a safe, secure, and inspirational working environment.
  • Managing Hard Services, Soft Services, Workplace, and Business Support Operations in-house and with external teams.
  • Acting as primary Emergency Manager and owning emergency response and business continuity site plans.
  • Team management and development, overseeing 4 direct reports and 8 indirect reports.
  • Collaborating with Health & Safety and project teams to ensure compliance with workplace standards.
  • Supporting NCC’s senior leadership in meeting strategic development plans.
  • Proactively managing facilities budgets and monitoring expenditure.
  • Driving maintenance standards and overall upkeep of buildings and grounds.
  • Role modelling safe working practices in support of NCC’s H&S policies.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant legislative requirements and representing Estates operations in ISO accreditation processes.
  • Driving continuous improvement in standards, systems, and technology.

Skills & Experience:

  • 5+ years in a similar role, ideally within an R&D and/or high-risk environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Estates and Facilities Management principles.
  • Extensive knowledge of key Estates topics (CDM, Building Regulations, Contractor Control, etc.).
  • Experience managing multiple sites and services.
  • Desirable: Full membership of RICS, IWFM or similar.
  • Desirable: Experience in establishing a secure facility.
