Matchtech are recruiting for a Designated Project Engineer - Track Design to work with a key client in Toronto. This is a permanent role and will require relocation to Toronto.
Key Contributions
- Leads the review and comment on design deliverables provided by designers, consultants, and suppliers.
- Responsible for Track life cycle assurance for rail corridors within the project portfolio including conceptual design development and design reviews.
- Review suitability of evidence from Design, Construction and Testing and Commissioning team for verification and validation purposes.
- Ensuring functional coordination across a matrix organization.
- Ensure the safety, EHS and compliance requirements are fulfilled at all times.
- Review the Electrification strategy definition in line with contract requirements.
- Leads and coordinates signal and communication activities and stakeholders from transfer to close-out.
- Definition of signal and communication objectives and main drivers to achieve customer satisfaction.
- Monitor and periodically mobilise a team of engineers to assist with review of design work packages and other submittals.
- Have an understanding of System Engineering approach to project delivery.
- Provide advice on requests for deviations from standards related to electrification of a railway corridor.
- Establish standards and best practices for quality of the reporting and analytics throughout CPG.
Education
A bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably mechanical, electrical, electronics, or transportation management, or a related field is required.
Experience
5+ years in Transit and Railway design and construction management in Track systems. Experience managing large, complex, multi-year transit projects in an operational environment, for signaling and Communication systems and related works.
Technical Competencies
- Advanced understanding of Track Standard and AREMA.
- Knowledge of different types of track forms including special trackwork.
- Knowledge of interfaces between track and other systems and structures.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Thorough understanding of contracts, plans, specifications, and regulations.
- Knowledge of project management principles and practices.
- Must have the ability to make sound decisions in the course of daily work.
- Analytical, oral/written communication and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in the use of project management software and computer applications is essential.
- Ability to plan, schedule and organize a variety of activities and deal with stressful situations with tight deadlines.
- Thorough understanding of engineering, architectural, and other construction drawings.
