A Rolling Stock Engineer, with an appreciation of Rail Adhesion, is required on behalf of a leading Transport organisation, headquartered in London. As a Rolling Stock Engineer, you will be tasked with providing specialist technical knowledge and responsible for delivering safe, compliant, efficient, and assured engineering solutions.
The Rolling Stock team provide engineering support to various activities within the business, including support to the safe delivery of operational service in the form of Low adhesion engineering. This includes support for the actions that can help to manage rail adhesion by either increasing the available adhesion or reducing adhesion demand.
The successful Rolling Stock Engineer will have an appreciation of rail adhesion as a topic and wider expertise in rail vehicles and the rail system in general; providing technical guidance and advice as a trusted source of engineering expertise for your team, peers, stakeholders and the wider business, including our Heads of Engineering Delivery.
The role is office based in central London, with a requirement to work on-site as the job requires.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the coordination of work by multiple stakeholders from different disciplines, both internal and external.
- Leadership of technical risk mitigation, with commercial awareness.
- Provide technical and cost benefit analysis to the delivery area.
- Oversee and support the delivery of activities targeted both inside and outside the leaf fall season by providing insight and analysis to resolve complex technical queries.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Engineering Degree (BEng or MEng) or equivalent.
- Knowledge and appreciation of Rail Adhesion.
- Experience of applying professional engineering judgement to support engineering maintenance projects or operational activities.
- Knowledge of engineering safety management and its application within the railway environment or equivalent.
- Experience of carrying out technical document review and analysis.
- Experienced in the application of relevant Railway Standards commonly adopted for Rolling Stock, Track and/or Signals.
