About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Chief Product Owner (CPO) to lead product development and delivery within a high-profile defence capability programme. This role will ensure that value is delivered to end-users and that outputs align with operational needs, while working closely with senior stakeholders and multi-disciplinary teams.
As CPO, you will define product outcomes, oversee delivery against strategic roadmaps, and act as the voice of the customer throughout the development lifecycle. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring backlog priorities reflect user needs and that progress is communicated effectively to stakeholders at all levels.
Key Responsibilities
Define outcomes and develop the product roadmap, engaging stakeholders to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
Oversee product goals, tracking milestones and ensuring delivery teams meet deadlines and expectations.
Manage and refine the product backlog, including:
Creating and communicating backlog items and goals.
Prioritising features in line with customer requirements.
Ensuring transparency and understanding of backlog items.
Making decisions on backlog changes.
Represent the voice of the customer at Scrum ceremonies and other stakeholder forums.
Build trust and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure their needs and priorities are reflected in delivery.
Validate user stories and product features with stakeholders to ensure accurate implementation.
Provide input to regular progress reporting.
About You
The successful candidate will bring:
Significant experience as a Product Owner in an agile environment.
A proven ability to manage product backlogs and roadmaps across complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
Experience working in defence, government, or other complex organisations (desirable but not essential).
A collaborative mindset with the ability to bridge the gap between technical teams and business stakeholders.
