We are seeking an experienced Marine Inspector with an engineering background to support a vessel conversion project based in Birkenhead. This is a site based role requiring daily onboard presence in an active shipyard environment. The position requires strong practical understanding of marine systems and the ability to inspect, challenge, and ensure quality of works being carried out.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect and monitor ongoing works on the allocated vessel across mechanical, electrical, and/or structural systems
- Provide day to day oversight of shipyard and subcontractor activities
- Attend and witness harbour and sea trials (HAT/SAT)
- Identify and escalate issues, defects, and quality concerns to the Site Supervisor and Ship Manager
- Provide cover and support to other inspectors as required
- Maintain inspection records, reports, and punch lists
- Attend project/progress meetings with yard and client stakeholders
Requirements
- Strong marine engineering background (ex-Chief / 2nd Engineer or shipyard equivalent)
- Proven experience in shipyard environments (refit, conversion, or new build)
- Experience with inspection, QA/QC
- Familiar with trials, commissioning, and system integration
- Confident working in a fast paced, contractor driven yard environment
- Strong communication skills with ability to challenge and escalate where required
Contract Details
- £65/h Outside IR35
- 40 hours per week as standard
- Possible overtime as required by project
- If from out of area, you will be required to arrange your own accommodation
- Early July start
- 12 month contract (with potential extension project dependant)
