Principal Engineer - Mechanical Engineering (Propulsor)
Location: Barrow-in-Furness (Hybrid Working)
Contract: 12 Months
Security Clearance: BPSS & SC clearance required (subject to ITAR and UK Export Control restrictions)
Matchtech are currently supporting a leading organisation within the UK defence and maritime engineering sector in the recruitment of a Principal Mechanical Engineer (Propulsor) on a long-term contract basis.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a specialist engineering team responsible for the design, manufacture, installation and refurbishment of complex submarine propulsor systems. Working alongside internal engineering teams and external stakeholders, you will play a key role in the delivery of technically challenging projects supporting critical defence programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the design and development of submarine propulsor systems.
- Assess material selection and suitability for engineering applications.
- Collaborate with internal teams, suppliers and external stakeholders.
- Evaluate manufacturability and production processes for complex components.
- Work with metallic, composite and coated material systems.
- Ensure compliance throughout the full engineering lifecycle, from concept through to in-service support.
- Provide technical guidance relating to large-scale precision-engineered assemblies.
Essential Experience
- Strong background in Mechanical Engineering within a complex engineering environment.
- Experience working with large, high-value engineered assemblies.
- Knowledge of metallic and composite materials.
- Understanding of machining processes and manufacturing capability.
- Familiarity with casting, forging and component tolerancing principles.
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
- Experience supporting manufacture, design integration or production engineering activities.
