Our client, a leading organisation within the defence and security sector, is seeking a Mechanical Assembler/Tester to join its assembly team in Havant on a contract basis. The role involves precision mechanical assembly and testing of engineered components and systems, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, quality standards and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assemble mechanical components and systems in line with engineering drawings, work instructions and specifications
- Carry out functional and pressure testing using appropriate tools and equipment
- Identify, record and report non-conformances or defects during assembly and testing
- Maintain accurate build, test and traceability documentation
- Work with engineering and quality teams to resolve technical issues
- Follow all health and safety procedures, including the correct use of personal protective equipment
- Support continuous improvement activities within the assembly cell and wider production environment
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe workshop area
Job Requirements:
- Experience in mechanical assembly and testing, ideally within a defence, marine or heavy engineering environment
- Background as a Mechanical Fitter or mechanical assembler.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, method sheets and engineering specifications
- Familiarity with precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, callipers and gauges
- Understanding of hydraulic or pneumatic systems is desirable
- Strong attention to detail and a clear commitment to quality
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, mechanical fitting or a related discipline; a relevant apprenticeship is advantageous
Additional Information:
- Workshop-based position involving occasional lifting and manual handling
- Working hours are 06:00 to 15:00 on Monday, 07:00 to 15:00 from Tuesday to Thursday, and 07:00 to 13:00 on Friday
- Occasional overtime or shift work may be required in line with project demands
