Our client is seeking an experienced Ecologist to support a busy highways planning team on a contract basis. The role will focus on reviewing planning applications and associated ecological information, helping to support the delivery of highway and infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reviewing planning applications and ecological documentation relating to highway and infrastructure schemes
- Providing ecological advice and recommendations to the planning team
- Assessing ecological reports, surveys, assessments and mitigation proposals
- Identifying potential ecological risks and advising on appropriate solutions
- Contributing to planning consultations and the review of supporting information
- Maintaining accurate records and preparing clear written comments and reports
- Working collaboratively with planners, engineers, consultants and other project stakeholders
Job Requirements:
- Experience in ecology, particularly within highways, infrastructure or planning environments
- Strong understanding of ecological assessment and planning application processes
- Ability to review technical ecological reports and identify key issues
- Knowledge of relevant environmental legislation, policy and best practice
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage a substantial workload
- Ability to work independently and contribute effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Availability to work full time or a minimum of three to four days per week
Contract Details:
- Initial contract period of approximately six months
- Potential extension of up to 12 months, subject to workload and funding
- Suitable for an experienced Ecologist; trainee and new graduate applications are less suited to the current workload
- Opportunity to support a range of highways planning and infrastructure projects
