General Machinist
Portsmouth, Hampshire | Full-Time, Permanent | Day Shift, 36 Hours per Week
The Opportunity
Our client, a well-established specialist manufacturing business based in Portsmouth, is seeking an experienced CNC Turner/Miller to join their skilled production team. This is an excellent opportunity for a time-served machinist with experience in both CNC and manual turning/milling who is looking to work in a highly specialised precision engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
· Set and operate both CNC and manual lathes to manufacture precision-engineered components.
· Work within a busy machine shop environment while maintaining health, safety and quality standards.
· Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and production documentation.
· Use precision measuring equipment to verify dimensions and maintain tight tolerances.
· Monitor machining processes and make adjustments where required.
· Maintain accurate production records and support continuous improvement initiatives.
· Work collaboratively with production and engineering teams.
Essential Skills & Experience
· Proven experience as a CNC Turner/Miller within a precision engineering environment.
· Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
· Experience using precision measuring instruments.
· Working knowledge of Fanuc controls is essential.
· Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Desirable Skills & Experience
· Experience using XYZ Prototrack controls.
· Experience working with Heidenhain control systems.
· Experience operating manual lathes and other machine shop equipment.
