Overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Microbiologist to join a high-quality, ISO-accredited regional microbiology service providing clinical, infection prevention & control, and antimicrobial stewardship support across multiple acute hospitals and community services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical microbiology and infection prevention & control services to acute and community healthcare settings.
  • Participate in a regional antimicrobial stewardship programme and lead relevant initiatives.
  • Supervise laboratory operations, ensuring quality and timely reporting.
  • Participate in clinical audit, research, and teaching of medical trainees and other healthcare professionals.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and quality assurance programmes.
  • Participate in the 1:5 on-call rota for out-of-hours service provision.

Requirements

  • Specialist registration (or eligibility for registration) on the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland in the specialty of Microbiology.
  • Proven experience in clinical microbiology, infection control, and antimicrobial stewardship.
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to continuous quality improvement and patient safety.
  • Access to transport as travel across sites may be required.

Additional Information

  • Annual leave: 30 working days.
  • Pensionable post under the HSE superannuation scheme.
  • Appointment subject to medical and character clearance.
