We are seeking a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist to provide specialist assessment, treatment, and risk management for individuals with complex mental health and forensic needs in community-based settings.
Role Overview
This role involves delivering high-quality, person-centred psychiatric care, working as part of a multidisciplinary team to support individuals with forensic histories, mental illness, and complex behavioural presentations.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct forensic psychiatric assessments, risk formulation, and management planning
- Provide expert clinical input on complex cases, including dual diagnosis and behavioural needs
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across mental health and disability services
- Support clinical governance, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance
- Contribute to maintaining standards aligned with national regulatory bodies
- Provide cover for consultant colleagues as required
Requirements
- Specialist registration with the Irish Medical Council (or eligibility)
- Proven experience in forensic psychiatry
- Strong skills in risk assessment and biopsychosocial formulation
- Experience working with complex mental health and/or intellectual disability populations
- Excellent communication, decision-making, and teamwork abilities
- Experience across forensic and intellectual disability services
- Involvement in research, audit, or medical education
